Sir,
I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 30th ultimo enclosing a copy of a report by Mr.J.H. Stewart Lockhart,C.M.G., on his recent visit to the newly acquired territory in the vicinity of Kong Kong and asking for Lord Lansdowne's obser- vations thereon.
Lord Lansdowne understands, however, that this report has also been referred to the Colonial Defence Committee for
consideration, and I am therefore to say that the Secretary of State for War thinks that it will be more convenient to defer
his remarks pending the receipt of the report of that Committee.
The Under, Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your Obedient Servant,
